چکیده

In the IEEE 802.11 Power Save Mode (PSM) specified for Independent Basic Service Set (IBSS), time is divided into beacon intervals. At the beginning of each beacon interval, each station in the power save mode periodically wakes up for a duration called announcement traffic indication message (ATIM) window. The stations that have successfully transmitted ATIM frame within the ATIM window will compete to transmit data frame in the rest of the beacon interval. The transmission of an ATIM frame depends on the CSMA/CA mechanism specified in the IEEE 802.11 DCF. The probability of a successful transmission of an ATIM frame has a great impact on the performance of IBSS in power save mode. This paper presents an analytical model to calculate the throughput using the success probability of an ATIM frame transmission in ATIM window of fixed size. The simulation results validate the accuracy of this analytical analysis.

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

Performance modeling and evaluation of IEEE 802.11 IBSS power save mode

The IEEE 802.11 standard defines a power management algorithm for wireless LAN. In the power management for Independent Basic Service Set (IBSS), time is divided into Beacon Intervals (BIs) and each BI is divided into an Announcement Traffic Indication Message (ATIM) window and a data window. The stations that have successfully transmitted an ATIM frame within the ATIM window compete to transmi...

Performing Clock Synchronization for Power Management in Multi-hop Ad Hoc Networks

One of the common underlying assumptions in IEEE 802.11 standards' ad hoc mode operations is that all stations in the same IBSS can hear each other directly. In other words, the ad hoc mode of 802.11 supports only single-hop ad hoc networks. When extended to multi-hop environments, IEEE 802.11 protocols show a poor performance, if they are able to work at all. This has been acknowledged by rese...

Throughput Improvement in Wireless Multi-Hop Ad-Hoc Networks Using Load Control

IEEE 802.11 MAC is the most commonly used protocol in multi-hop ad-hoc networks which need no infrastructure. In multi-hop ad-hoc networks based on IEEE 802.11, since nodes try transmitting their packets at every possible slot, there is a high packet loss probability. This degrades network performance attributes such as throughput and fairness. In this paper, we focus on achieving the maximum t...

Fast Flooding in Power Save Mode of IEEE 802.11 DCF Based Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

We propose Fast Flooding in Power Save Mode (FFPSM), a modification of IEEE 802.11 power save mode operation for Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANET). The previous works for the power save mode operation usually focused on shortening the duration of the awake state to minimize the power consumption of mobile nodes. We observed that the longer sleeping period results in seriously long delivery latency...
